Can IVBSS Prove Safety Benefits?

Blending lane change warning, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning into a seamless system with an integrated driver-vehicle interface makes for a powerful combination of safety tools – theoretically. Now the IVBSS system – developed under the leadership of the University of Michigan to implement these functions – will be put to the test with fleet testing on the open road in Phase II of their program, which just received the green light. VII: USDOT Wants to Hear It All

In its most formal statement to date on the subject of Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII) deployment, USDOT has released a Request for Information (RFI) that all but admits they dont see the money showing up to fund the original and very ambitious deployment plan -- several hundred thousand roadside data transponders to support time-critical safety communications.
