Welcome!

IVsource: the source for intelligent vehicle news.

Since 1999 .... over 900 articles posted.

It's all about active safety systems for the hundreds of millions of cars and trucks on our roads -- today resulting in millions of crashes, injuries, and deaths. We're moving towards a new era in which, thanks to technologies such as on-board radar, lidar, and image processing, crashes are rare rather than commonplace.

Is it possible? Too good to be true? Read on, and decide for yourself!

Can IVBSS Prove Safety Benefits?
IV Source Blending lane change warning, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning into a seamless system with an integrated driver-vehicle interface makes for a powerful combination of safety tools – theoretically. Now the IVBSS system – developed under the leadership of the University of Michigan to implement these functions – will be put to the test with fleet testing on the open road in Phase II of their program, which just received the green light. They have their work cut out for them -- even for highly effective systems, crashes are so rare that safety benefits are notoriously hard to prove. See inside for more….

IV Source In its most formal statement to date on the subject of Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII) deployment, USDOT has released a Request for Information (RFI) that all but admits they dont see the money showing up to fund the original and very ambitious deployment plan -- several hundred thousand roadside data transponders to support time-critical safety communications. So now they're asking the world for input. What should we do? Who should we do it with? Can anybody make money at this game? See inside for the text of the RFI.
