Automotive Industry Provides Advice to USDOT on Intelligent Vehicle R&D   |   Reflecting their role as a chartered Federal Advisory Committee, ITS America recently sent formal advice to the US government, providing recommendations on research priorities within the Intelligent Vehicle Initiative (IVI) program.  The letter provides very specific and concise recommendations from the automotive industry, to a degree not seen in quite some time.

Cooperative Vehicle-Highway Systems Under Test in Japan   |   At the ITS World Congress in Chicago in October, Mr. Shigenobu Kawasaki of the Japanese Ministry of Land, Transport, and Infrastructure provided an overview of their very extensive research program in advanced road infrastructure equipment and cooperative vehicle-highway systems – easily the most advanced program of its type worldwide.  IVsource provides the details.

Scientists Will Study Physiological Basis Of Driver Distraction Under GM Sponsorship
   |   General Motors has announced a new research partnership that ultimately could identify a physiological basis for driver distraction. The new partnership with Wayne State University will include the use of advanced brain imaging technology.

ITS America and ITS Europe to Cooperate on Safety Programs
   |   ITS America and ERTICO (Intelligent Transport Systems and Services - Europe) have announced plans to cooperate on transportation and vehicle safety matters, formalizing the agreement with a Memorandum of Understanding signed at the e-Safety conference in September.

Ford to Showcase Safety Concept Vehicles at ITS World Congress
   |   Ford Motor Co. plans to showcase a pair of advanced Safety Concept Vehicles at the 9th ITS World Congress this week in Chicago. The systems integrate the data received from low-light cameras, collision avoidance radar, and wireless vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to roadside communications systems to implement crash countermeasures.
